After discussing this yesterday with my friend Jim over at www.jameshooker.com I decided the subject of university tuition fees was worth a post.
Now there is 2 different parts im concerned with here.
1. Being a government that got elected due to screaming about education is now charging us 3x as much to get one.
2. The fact quite a large percentage of lectures get cancelled, no-one shows up or theres is a strike on
The first reason is fairly self explanatory so I dont need to go into much detail.
However the second part needs a little more attention.
At school if a teacher was a no show it was fine, you had fun or went to lunch early. At university you are paying for every single one of these classes.
Id say an average out of the 20 or so lectures I have a week 2 dont happen. Thats 10% of my tuition fee. With the rise of fees now upto £3000. When you realise thats £300 of your money it starts to look a little worse.
Jim and I basically said, Why not make a note of what lectures dont happen, get the dates confirmed then invoice the university for failure to provide a service you paid for. It makes perfect sense to me if lecturers dont want to show up as we've actually gone looking for them and found a few drinking coffee in their office. Screw it they can pay for it then.
£300 is just an estimate remember for every lecture they miss think you just lost £5-10. Ill make it the most expensive coffee break the lazy sods ever have!
